Two St. Markers—Henry Thrun '19 and Sean Farrell '20—were recently selected to USA Hockey's National Developmental under-20 team, putting them among the top 23 players nationally in their age group. Farrell is a forward from Hopkinton, MA. Thrun is a defenseman from Southborough.
"This is an extraordinary achievement," says SM Athletic Director John Levandowski, "as their selection marks the first time two students were chosen from the same school, and the first time any player has been selected from the Eberhart Division of ISL hockey."
The United States National Junior Team is the men's national under-20 ice hockey team that represents the U.S. at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Under-20 Championship (commonly referred to as the IIHF World Junior Championship). The 10-nation tournament features the world's best men's players under 20 years of age and is a 31-game event that takes place over the course of 10 days. Thus, both Thrun and Farrell will be representing the U.S. in world play, preparing them for the World Juniors and possibly the Olympics.
"Unfortunately," notes Levandowski, "it is somewhat bittersweet for St. Mark's, as Henry and Sean will be attending school in Michigan for the next two years, as they pursue this special opportunity. They will be missed. We wish them both the very best."
