This summer, the Town of Southborough's won the Massachusetts State Senior Little League Championship, and six St. Mark's students were on the team.
Current SM day students Grant Gattuso '19, Blake Gattuso '20, Gavin Gattuso '20, Louie Lyons '20, Gunnar Vachris '19, and Matt Walsh '19 were all members of the Southborough champions.
Vachris pitched a shutout and Grant Gattuso blasted a three-run home run in the first game of a best-of-three championship series against Woburn, giving Southborough the win. Blake Gattuso looked good on the basepaths, scoring a run to keep game two close, but Woburn won 5-4.
Walsh was the winning pitcher in the championship final, mixing a potent fastball with a tricky curve to help lead the Southborough All-Stars to a 5-2 victory and a trip to the East Regional Tournament in New Jersey.
Despite solid pitching from Walsh and good hitting from Vachris, Southborough lost to East Vineland, New Jersey in the regional series, ending an impressive 24-4 campaign. Almost half of the squad were St. Markers.
