Three SM Teams Headed for NEPSAC Post-Season Play

Three St. Mark's varsity teams this fall are headed into post-season play in New England Preparatory School Athletic Conference tournaments. All quarterfinal games are this Wednesday, November 15, and two of the games are at home in Southborough.

Coach Lauren Ames' Girls' Varsity Soccer team, coming off a record-setting 13-win season, is seeded #4 in the NEPSAC Class B tournament, and will play #5 seed Tabor Academy (10-2-3) here at St. Mark's on Wednesday. St. Mark's lost to Tabor 2-3 during the regular season, on the road in Marion, MA. But the St. Mark's players are optimistic, coming off a big win against Groton and opening the Class B tournament on their home field, and are up for the challenge. During the regular season, the 13-2-5 Lions scored 44 goals (2.2 per game) while allowing only 18 (0.9 per game), and goalkeeper Zoe Maddox '19 has 8 shutouts. Wednesday's game will start at 2 PM on Thayer Field. Last year, the St. Mark's girls reached the N.E. finals before falling to Pingree 4-5 in the championship game.

Varsity Field Hockey coach Colleen Finnerty '11 will take her team on to the turf of Sargent Field on Wednesday as the #3 seed in the NEPSAC Class B tourney. The 11-4 Lions, who scored 38 goals in their 15 regular season games will face #6 seed Buckingham, Browne & Nichols (8-5-3). St. Mark's tied BB&N on the road earlier in the year. The game will start at 2:15 PM. St. Mark's Field Hockey has won the New Englands five times before, most recently in 2014. Last year they made it to the semi-final round.

Boys' Varsity Soccer went 10-5-2 this fall. Coach Neil Cifuentes' Lions will travel to South Kent to take on the home team there in the NEPSAC Class B quarterfinals. South Kent was 14-3-3 during its regular season, but the two teams did not meet. This is the fourth time in five years that Coach Cifuentes' St. Markers have made it to the post-season. On his SM career, Cifuentes is 82-59-29 overall. This Wednesday's game at South Kent begins at 2 PM.

Also, Grant Gattuso '19 will be representing St. Mark's in the N.E. All Star Cross Country race, here at St. Mark's on Saturday, November 18.

Let's go all out in supporting our Lions in action—GO ST. MARK'S!
