Naviance and Blackboard

Family Connection by Naviance is a web based tool available through the College Counseling Office to families at St. Mark’s. Once registered with a username and password, students and parents have direct access to the site’s powerful features: extensive research tools, including up to date information about colleges, direct web links to schools, admission applications, financial aid, standardized testing, scholarship opportunities and summer programs. A student customizes his or her own college counseling website to research schools, modify college lists, sign up to meet with a college representative visiting St. Mark’s, apply for scholarships and read important documents, information and newsletters posted by the College Counseling Office. Parents are able to gain access to their child’s website and track the progression of the college list and see historical and institutional data regarding the success of St. Mark’s students at various colleges and gain some perspective on the selectivity at various institutions.

Blackboard, the school’s classroom management system, is available to students via the school’s intranet server. Its features provide an additional level of support to students during the college application process. Through Blackboard, students can join “College Counseling Blogs”, instant message with their college counselors, retrieve documents or newsletters posted by the College Counseling Office, and stay informed by gaining access to articles/podcasts relevant to college admission.
