In December 2001 then high-school student Britney Gallivan broke the world record by folding a piece of paper in half 11 times, and the following year broke the record again by completing 12 folds. On March 29, 2008, fourteen St. Marker’s attempted to beat Britney’s record. The photo shows the results of the event. As you can see we did not beat Britney’s record (the 13th fold does not show a contiguous set of 8192 horizontal layers!) We only managed 12 complete folds, but this is a record of some sorts – we did it with paper, not gold leaf.
