On Friday, January 24, a dinner was held to honor the remarkable service of G. Thomas Martinson ’80 to St. Mark’s School. Tom became a member of the St. Mark’s Alumni Executive Committee in 1994, serving through 2001. In 1998, he was named a Trustee of the School, rising to the position of Vice President, and then, in 2007, President. Tom has been involved with the Major Gifts Committee since joining the Board, and in 2005-06 he chaired the Head of School Search Committee.
Seventy St. Mark’s alumni, parents, and friends attended the special evening along with members of Tom’s family. Officers of the Board of Trustees led the ceremony that including a touching blessing from The Rt. Reverend J. Clark Grew ’58 and tributes from Vice President of the Board Alys Reynders Scott ’85, President of the Board R. William Burgess ’77, and Head of School John C. Warren ’74. Tom was presented with a photo album, which included photos of many of the new spaces and programs that have come to fruition under his leadership, as well as a framed hockey jersey from the recent Frozen Fenway Event. Clearly moved by the evening, Tom addressed the room, reflecting on his years of service to the School. It was a wonderful evening celebrating the loyalty and selfless devotion of a great St. Marker.
