Halloween Friday saw a feisty matchup between the Milton and St. Mark’s JV field hockey teams. Milton came out strong, rolling over the Lions and dominating the first half with several fast breaks. The Mustangs battered SM goalie Stacy McGlory with hard shots, getting one past her to take the lead with 9:45 left to go in the first half. Although the scoreboard showed 0-1, the Lions refused to give up. The defense worked to clear the ball on three defensive corners, and McGlory held off several more attempts to score. After the half, a bruised but not beaten St. Mark’s squad came out with renewed determination, keeping the ball in Milton’s defensive zone and setting up several beautiful scoring opportunities, which unfortunately didn’t pan out. Finally, with most of the team down in Milton’s defensive circle, Sara Chinnaswamy ’11 tapped the ball past the Milton goalie to tie the game, with less than five minutes left. Despite this goal, St. Mark’s couldn’t put another one in, and the score remained 1-1. The entire team contributed to the goal; there were no subs for the game, and everyone put in 110%.
