  • Tess D’Orsi ’16 Selected for National Under-19 Women’s Lacrosse Squad: More St. Markers Honored

    Congratulations to Tess D’Orsi ’16, who was just named to the 25-player training roster for the U.S. Women’s National Under-19 Lacrosse Team. A rising Fifth Former from Sudbury, MA, D’Orsi was the leading scorer on this past spring’s 15-2 St. Mark’s Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse team, earning All-Independent School League (ISL), All-New England, and All-American honors for her efforts.

    Two members of this spring’s 15-2 Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse team were named First Team All-Americans by US Lacrosse, the governing body of high school lacrosse nationwide. Mikaela Karlsson ’14 was recognized as an All-American for the second year in a row, while Tess D'Orsi '16 earned her first All-Amerocan nod. In addition, five St. Mark’s girls’ lacrosse players—Hope D'Orsi '14, Maddie Torgerson ’15, Lizzy MacDougall ’14, and Kieran Burke ’14, along with Karlsson—were recognized by US Lacrosse as Academic All-Americans.

  • Seven Inducted into St. Mark's Athletic Hall of Fame

    This past Saturday, June 14, as part of the St. Mark’s 2014 Reunion Weekend, seven graduates were inducted into the St. Mark’s Athletic Hall of Fame. One coach and St. Markers from each of the past five decades were welcomed into the SM Hall at a ceremony in the Hinkle Room by Head of School John C. Warren ’74 and Tarah Donoghue Breed ’00, Chair of the SM Athletic Hall of Fame Committee. Following a special video presentation—St. Mark’s Athletics Past & Present—each inductee was introduced by a presenter, and then accepted membership in the St. Mark’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

    SM Alumnae Outstanding at NCAA Rowing Championships

    Two St. Mark’s graduates—Liza McBride ’11 and Aisling Ryan ’10—excelled at this year’s NCAA Women’s Rowing Championship Regatta, held on June 1st at Indianapolis. McBride, a junior, was part of the Princeton 2nd Varsity boat that won a Silver Medal, in an amazing finish against #1 Ohio State, the top women's rowing program in the country. Ryan, a senior at Bates, rowed in the 1st Varsity 8 boat which finished fourth overall in the Grand Final, as the 4th fastest Division III crew in the nation.

  • Spring Sports Wrap-Up: Girls’ Varsity Lax 15-2; Burnett-Peabody Bowl a Tie; Fearing Prizes to Kearan Burke, Sam Ward

    The school year may be over, but the echoes of St. Mark’s athletic successes continue to reverberate. At Prize Day, Sixth Formers Sam Ward and Kearan Burke were presented with the School’s highest athletic honor—the Fearing Athletic Prizes. On the season, St. Mark’s tied with Groton for a share of the Burnett-Peabody Bowl, with 19-19-2 record between the two longtime rivals this past school year. For the second year in a row, the Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse team finished at 15-2, matching its winningest season ever and once again 2nd place in the ISL. Their .882 winning percentage earned them the Wiedergott Award for the spring. Both the 3rd and 4th boats for Boys’ Varsity Crew finished the season impressively at this year’s New England Interscholastic Rowing Association Regatta this past Saturday on Lake Quinsigamond.

    Alumnae Excel in Women’s Collegiate Crew; St. Markers Continue to Experience College Sports Success This Spring

    Graduates of St. Mark’s School continue to excel athletically at the collegiate level. This past weekend, two from the SM Class of 2013, Maddie Vachris and Lindsay Gibbons, returned to their home course—Worcester’ Lake Quinsigamond—to compete in the 2014 Patriot League Women’s Rowing Championships. Vachris, rowing for the U.S. Naval Academy (defending Patriot League champions), helped take the Annapolis Second Varsity Eight to first place in the Grand Finals. Gibbons, a coxswain for Holy Cross, also helped take the Crusaders to the Grand Final race, where they finished sixth.

  • Girls’ Lacrosse, Girls’ Tennis, Boys’ Crew Highlight First Half of SM Spring Sports Season

    At the mid-way point of the St. Mark’s spring sports campaign, a number of teams are off to strong starts; this despite some challenges this spring (as many as forty different scheduled contests have already been cancelled or postponed due to weather conditions). Highlighting the SM season to date have been the girls’ lacrosse, girls’ tennis, and boys’ crew programs.
