Wick Festival Plays to Standing Room Only

Student singers from across New England performed in front of a full house in the Class of '45 Hall this weekend, during the 18th annual Myron A. Wick, Jr. Choral Festival. The Wick Festival, as it is affectionately called, was established in 1992 through the generosity of the Wick family and friends, in memory of Myron Wick '33 and in honor of his life-long enjoyment of singing.
This annual two day event features a cappella singing groups from various schools, and is one of the highlights of the year for the Music Department. Nine schools and two colleges were represented this year.
On Friday, February , ensembles from Pomfret School, Nobles, BB&N, Wheeler, Northfield Mt. Herman, and St. Mark's School performed, along with special guests from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Logarhythms.
On Saturday, February 6, Middlesex, Roxbury Latin School, and St. Mark's School performed. Special guests from Yale called Mixed Company , also appeared.
St. Mark's singers shared in the spotlight. Singing for Cats Meow were Alexandra Carter, Shelly Deroski, Jaqui Hatch, Abigail Jackson, Christine Jay, Jane Merrifield, Aisling Ryan, Rachel Sohn, Kristal Cheung, Julia Rhee, Kate Weatherly-White and Gretchen Williams. They performed three wonderful songs including Sweet Dreams by the Eurhythmics.
Performing with the Octet were Rhys Athayde, Simon Chase, John Clapp, Tyler Dawson, Greg Jacobs, Thomas Kim, Jack McCarthy, Will Putnam, Henry Romeyn, Daniel Stephans, and Stephen Yoon. They crooned and beat-boxed to such classics as Me and Julio, Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes, and Clocks..
Both concerts were held in the Class of 1945 Hall on the St. Mark's School campus. Performances began at 7:00 PM each evening and were free and open to the public.
