    Alumni Hockey Players celebrate 30 years!

    On Sunday, February 28, nineteen St. Mark’s alumni spanning 5 decades descended on Southborough for the school’s 30th Annual Alumni Hockey Game. This year the annual event has been renamed in honor of Peabo Gardner ’66, one of the organizers of the inaugural 1980 game.

    The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told

    Thursday’s Head’s Holiday ended at dinner time, but the fun was just beginning as many faculty and students discovered when they went to the opening night of the winter play entitled “The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told.” Full of bawdy humor and side splitting jokes the play, which is the tale of the original inhabitants of the Garden of Eden -- Adam and Steve, takes the audience on a whirl wind tour of the centuries. The flamboyantly gay couple are banished from Eden, then meet a lesbian couple, Jane and Mabel, who insist that they are the earth's original couple. Together the quartet survives the centuries, including time on the Ark, slavery in Egypt, under the rule of a supremely effete Pharaoh, and life in contemporary New York.

    Poet Taylor Mali Changes Opinions at SM

    Taylor Mali inspired the St. Mark’s community during his two days as the English Department’s visiting poet. He disabused students of the notion that poetry readings are dull or even remotely dreary. Mali, a professional spoken word artist, won the National Poetry Slam contest four times, appeared on “Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry” three times, and was a teacher for nine years. Mali is on a mission to create 1000 new teachers.

    Wick Festival Plays to Standing Room Only

    Student singers from across New England performed in front of a full house in the Class of '45 Hall this weekend, during the 18th annual Myron A. Wick, Jr. Choral Festival. The Wick Festival, as it is affectionately called, was established in 1992 through the generosity of the Wick family and friends, in memory of Myron Wick '33 and in honor of his life-long enjoyment of singing.

    On the evening of Friday January 22, Rev. James LaMacchia was installed as the new holder of the Martin Fenton Sr. Chair in Humanities. Rev. LaMacchia is the second St. Mark’s faculty member to hold this distinguished endowed chair that was founded by the family and friends of Martin Fenton Sr. ’25 in the spring of 1999 to celebrate Martin’s life and recognize his belief in the importance of a strong humanities education.

    Professor George R. Goethals Speaks to the Fifth Form About Leadership

    All Vth Formers at St. Mark’s School will be participating in an affective education program in leadership and service this winter. On Tuesday December 8th guest lecturer Professor George R. Goethals kicked off the program with the first in a series of three workshops. Goethals, who is a social psychologist, is a member of the faculty at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond.
