    Slam Poet Taylor Mali Performs for Enthusiastic Gray Colloquium Audience

    This past Monday, in celebration of National Poetry Month, performance poet Taylor Mali took to the stage of the Class of 1945 Hall in the Putnam Family Arts Center at St. Mark's. Mr. Mali's appearance was co-sponsored by the St. Mark's English Department and the Gray Colloquium. The Gray Colloquium Series is designed to engage St. Mark’s students in an exploration of one complex global issue annually. It has been made possible by the generosity of former St. Mark's Board President and Trustee C. Boyden Gray '60. This year’s Gray Colloquium theme is “Citizenship in a Technological World”.

    Robotics Team Competitive in N.E. Regional Events

    In just its fourth year of operation, the St. Mark’s Robotics Team #3566 “Gone Fishin’” looked strong in both New England Regional competitions over the last six weeks. Major events both in New Hampshire (at the end of February) and Connecticut (at the end of March) saw the St. Mark’s contingent make an impressive showing, earning the respect of their opponents and of the crowd against a very challenging field.

    On Thursday, April 23rd, the annual Gray Colloquium Seminar Day was held at St. Mark’s: a full day of workshops and presentations as part of the Gray Colloquium series at the School.     Guest Presenter Facilitates Faculty Discussion on Global Citizenship

    Just before classes resumed for the spring term, the St. Mark’s faculty participated in a Professional Development program focusing on Global Citizenship. The facilitator and keynote speaker for the two-day event was Dr. Maghan Keita, history professor and director of the Institute for Global Interdisciplinary Studies at Villanova’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, as well as Chair of the College Board’s Trustee body.

    St. Markers Excel at Regional Science Fair

    On the Friday before spring break, several St. Mark’s students participated in the annual Worcester Regional Science Fair held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Six out of eight projects, both individual and team, were selected to go on to the Massachusetts State Science Fair in May. Eight students won awards for their efforts: Julie Geng ‘15, Haley Jeon ‘14, Will Lyons ‘14, Finnegan Schick ‘14, Torie Shakespeare ‘15, Ali Mills ‘14, Lizzy MacDougal ‘14, and Hughie Auchincloss ‘14. Science teacher Lindsey Lohwater accompanied the St. Mark’s scientists to the event.

    The Winter Play—Crimes of the Heart—Onstage in the Blackbox Theatre for 3 Performances This Week

    Crimes of the Heart, a self-described “tragic comedy” about three sisters is this year’s St. Mark’s Winter Play, with performances this Thursday (2/27), Friday (2/28), and Saturday (3/1) evenings in the Black Box Theatre downstairs in the Putnam Family Arts Center. Winner of the 1981 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best American Play, Crimes of the Heart was written by Beth Henley, and has been revived many times around the country since its initial success.
