On Saturday, May 12, St. Markers Shawn Wu '13, Candice Wang '15, Shenghan Li '13, and Alex Padron '14 spoke at the 2012 China Education Symposium Annual Summit at Harvard Graduate School of Education. The C.E.S. is a student-founded and student-run organization there. The St. Mark's quartet presented Hand-in-Hand Rural Education Service, a 501(c) non-profit organization, to the myriad of other non-profit workers present at the Summit.

The Hand-in-Hand Rural Education Service is a 501(c) non-profit organization registered in Massachusetts. The concept of the organization was first conceived in October 2011 by Shawn Wu '13 and Mr. David Wu; the organization was officially registered and approved in February 2012. Hand-in-Hand was formed to improve the quality of education for students in the impoverished provinces in rural China. The organization has plans for a Summer Service Trip in June 2012 and will take around 30 volunteers for a two-week service trip in Inner Mongolia, China.

At the Symposium, all groups in attendance received constructive criticism from various seasoned volunteer work specialists and educators and had a great platform by which they shared their work and future plans to improve education in China. Hand-in-Hand Rural Education Service and its affiliated programs received much positive feedback. The Summer 2012 Trip has gained numerous new sign-ups after this summit and will take place as planed in June.
