A varied schedule of both celebratory and informative events highlighted an extremely successful St. Mark's Reunion Weekend 2012.
A Reunion Weekend Welcome Reception sponsored by the Boston Chapter of the St. Mark's Alumni Association was held on Thursday evening, June 14, at Boston's Downtown Hilton. On Friday, June 15, there were receptions and special Reunion dinners for the Classes of 1942, 1947, 1952, 1957, 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, and 2002.
Saturday morning, trustee Bill Burgess '77 moderated a presentation and discussion entitled "St. Mark's Today and Tomorrow" in the School's Black Box Theater. It featured Dr. Laura Appell-Warren, Global Citizenship Initiative Co-Leader; Lynette Sumpter, Director of Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning; John C. Warren ’74, Head of School; and Mike Wirtz, STEM Initiative Leader. At 11 AM, more than 100 guests crowded into the Hinkle Room to witness the sixth class of inductees into the St. Mark's Athletic Hall of Fame.
A barbecue lunch followed, while over at Choate House graduates from the Southborough School gathered for their own luncheon and special Town Meeting in the Southborough School Room and garden there.
After lunch, a series of presentations were offered. In the Faculty Room, Nick Noble '76, who is writing the new St. Mark's history, engaged in conversation and discussion about that project. In the Hinkle Room, faculty member Esther Sanchez presented on "Guernica: The Tragedy Behind a Masterpiece". Science teacher Ken Wells was joined by Ryan Alipour '14 in introducing the St. Mark's Robotics program to an interested audience.
There was time for golf, tennis, swimming, relaxing, or a "fun run" with Head of School John Warren, before the traditional memorial chapel service. Cocktails and dinner followed under the big tent.
On Sunday morning, June 17, there was brunch for those who remained. All in all, it was a very positive and popular weekend.
