This past Saturday, the 19th Annual Peter M. Schuh Memorial Golf Tournament was held at the St. Mark’s Golf Course, followed by a cookout and celebration at Choate House. The Tournament is the principal fundraiser for the Peter Schuh Scholarship at St. Mark’s, presented each year in memory of Peter M. Schuh, St. Mark’s Class of 1992. The scholarship goes to that VI Former who “exhibits exceptional loyalty to and enthusiasm for St. Mark’s School,” exemplifying the life and spirit of Peter Schuh.
Peter Schuh died in June of 1994 in a job-related accident while working on the PGA Golf tour. He was just 20 years old, looking forward to his junior year at Bowdoin. His older brother, Steven Schuh, St. Mark’s Class of 1990, along with family, friends, and Peter’s classmates from St. Mark’s and Bowdoin, began the tournament and created the scholarship as memorial tribute. Over the years, they have raised almost $200,000 toward St. Mark’s Financial Aid endowment, and eighteen St. Markers have received the Scholarship.
This past year's recipient of the Schuh Scholarship was Eric Dolan '12. Head Monitor in 2011-12, Dolan was also winner of the Fearing Athletic Prize, the School's highest athletic honor.
The Schuh Memorial Golf Tournament is held every year on the second Saturday in August.
