Team of the Week:
JV field hockey: The JV field hockey team came roaring back from a first game defeat to earn two solid wins against Brooks (4-0) and Lawrence (2-0) last week. The team came out aggressively and was anchored by Sierra Rother '15 who scored two of the team's four goals against Brooks. Lindsay Gibbons '13 also had two stellar games at left wing – bringing the ball all the way from one end of the field to the other on a number of occasions. On Saturday, the Lions defeated Lawrence in a challenging 9 v. 9 game with a strong defensive line and solid goals from Rother and Erica Christiensen '15. Iliana Santangelo '15 earned the two shutouts. The team now stands at 3-1 on the season.
Student-Athlete of the Week:
Sophia Millerick '14: Sophia Millerick led the St. Mark’s Varsity field hockey team to a big victory last Tuesday against Brooks School, in a rematch of last year’s overtime playoff game. The Lions were down 2-1 at halftime, but came out more energized, focused, and smart with the ball. Millerick equalized the score with an unassisted goal, then followed that up by scoring the game-winner in the midst of a wild skirmish in front of the net with just under 10 minutes to play. The Lions are currently 5-0 this season.
