In valuing cooperation over self-interest and recognizing our role as global citizens, St. Mark’s School actively fosters environmental stewardship and sustainable development in its education, planning and practices.

Transportation |
Conserve fuel and reduce the environmental health and pollution impacts of hydrocarbon emissions by limiting unnecessary bus or automobile trips, idling and replacing older vehicles with more fuel efficient models. |
Food |
Improve nutrition, reduce carbon emissions, support the local economy and reduce pesticide exposure by purchasing food from local sources and growing organic food on campus. |
Purchasing |
Develop and implement a purchasing policy to protect environmental health, minimizes waste, conserve resources and improve efficiency. |
Water |
Protect and conserve water by reducing pollution, cutting consumption and developing ways to use it more efficiently. |
Land Use |
Maintain St. Mark’s land assets sustainably by limiting pollution, protecting biodiversity, managing woodlands and preserving local ecosystems and open space. |
Building |
All new construction will be built to an appropriate sustainability standard and maintained using the highest possible standards of sustainable maintenance products and practices. |
