Summary:
St. Mark’s School of Southborough is seeking a Carpenter to perform carpentry duties as needed or directed, operating in conjunction with the other construction trades. This role will respond to calls quickly, complete daily work in a timely manner, and assist with larger projects throughout the year. It is a year-round staff position that requires occasional evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform general maintenance and repair of buildings
  • Construct, repair, install, and finish millwork, casework, or other wood products
  • Construct partition systems, cabinets, worktables, bookcases, and other pieces
  • Order construction materials, maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment, and keep a clean and orderly shop
  • Remain updated on current building code requirements
  • Troubleshoot issues with all types of windows, doors and hardware
  • Move, relocate, and assemble office furniture
  • Identify malfunctioning equipment and machinery as needed and discuss with supervisors or other team members to diagnose problems and decide on appropriate steps for repairs
  • Perform general preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment
  • Perform maintenance team tasks as directed including set-up and prepare tables, chairs, stages, and podiums for events on campus
  • Perform ice and snow removal as directed
  • Be part of the emergency on call team

Minimum Job Requirements & Skills Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current Construction Supervisor license preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in working in all aspects of carpentry methods, tools, and materials
  • Understanding of construction means and methods
  • Experience working with trade partners (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, countertops, drywall tile and flooring)
  • Carpentry and general construction trades skills
  • Basic computer skills in MS Office and Google applications
  • Effective and creative use of problem-solving skills
  • Effective time management skills and ability to prioritize
  • Exceptional customer relations skills
  • Internal and external customer service focus
  • Ability to communicate and work in a productive team environment
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Valid driver’s license required

Physical Demands:
The employee must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks - including overhead tasks. They must also be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
