Summary Purpose and Function
This role serves as an essential safety and security component of the school’s operations working to ensure the safety and security of the entire campus community. The head security officer will lead the oversight of the entire security function working closely with the Director of Facilities and Chief Financial & Operations Officer. Work includes collaborating with on-campus teams in advance of key events on the campus each year.
Shift Hours:
3:30 p.m. to midnight weekdays during the school year from September through early June with some weekend work needed.
Essential functions, duties and responsibilities:
- The primary function of the officer is to observe and The officer should patrol the campus using the pre-determined set of points as determined by the school.
- Serve as the point person for security concerns from community members and from other security officers during other shifts on campus.
- Patrols should include monitoring both the interior and exterior of the campus.
- Patrols on campus should be conducted during set intervals each hour.
- Shift reports should be emailed at a minimum to the Director of Facilities within 24 hours of the completion of the shift. The school may request additional recipients for these reports.
- Access to a School vehicle for use on campus will be provided for urgent needs.
- For true emergencies (fire, police), 911 should be called and the school’s Emergency Administrator should be contacted.
- For facilities emergencies, the after-hours Emergency Facilities number should be called.
- The security office should be locked when the officer is not present in the office.
- The officer shall remain focused on the patrolling of campus and shall not engage with students unless there is a security-related concern or if they are assisting with orders or instructions during a fire-alarm or other issue, for example.
Qualifications/training/experience:
- High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
- At least 10 years of experience working as a security officer or in a similar role.
- Security experience in a dynamic environment preferred.
- Strong ability to listen and communicate effectively.
- Must be mobile and have the ability to move throughout the campus grounds.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
