Job Title: Writing Coach
Department/Division: The Burgess Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning
Supervisor: Director of Academic Support
FLSA: Non-Exempt / Hourly
St. Mark’s School seeks a writing coach to support high school students two times per week during evening study hall. This is a temporary, part-time position.
Responsibilities:
- Assist students by appointment during their evening study hours with every step of the writing process for their school assignments, from outlining to final drafts, with a focus on helping students develop the skills they need to be successful, independent writers
- Reference writing guidelines provided by academic departments and the goals of each assignment
- Record student attendance
- Use study hall tracking/communication duty chat system
The ideal candidate will have:
- Teaching or tutoring experience with high school students in a relevant subject area
- Expertise in writing instruction and knowledge of a variety of effective strategies for writing
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to quickly build rapport with high school students
- Willingness to learn about the St. Mark’s academic program and work within its mission
- Ability to juggle helping several students at once
- Familiarity with current research on learning and the brain, executive functioning, differentiated instruction, Universal Design for Learning, and learning differences
- Experience with Google Docs
