Squash Team Captures National Championship
The St. Mark’s varsity boys’ squash team returned home from Philadelphia this week with a Division IV National Championship. On Sunday, February 26, the team defeated Louisville Collegiate High School in a thrilling 4-3 victory to capture the title. Elgin Zou ’23 clinched the match with an exciting four-set win.

Throughout the weekend at the 2023 U.S. High School Squash Championships, the team played well, defeating Woodberry Forest 6-1 on Friday, February 24, and earning two more victories on Saturday, February 25, against Greenwich and Poly Prep. Winning the championship was a fitting end to a season of hard-fought matches.

Only a week before, the team finished in fifth place at the New Englands hosted by Salisbury School, where they battled a tough Loomis Chaffee squad and earned a clean sweep of St. George’s. The battle for fifth place came down to Oliver Machiels’ ’24 match at the #3 position. He won 11-9 in the fifth game.

The varsity boys’ squash team is coached by Steven Vo, a graduate of the Squash and Education Alliance Program SquashBusters, who played four years of varsity squash and tennis at Portsmouth Abbey School and is currently a pro at the Concord Acton Squash Club. Vo is also an admission counselor in the St. Mark’s Admission Office.
