Winter Play: Shakespeare in Love

Winter Play: Shakespeare in Love
Jackie Waters
The St. Mark's Theater Department presented its Winter Play, Shakespeare in Love, by Lee Hall, on March 2, 3, and 4 in the Black Box Theater. Director Chris Kent shared this synopsis of the stage adaptation of the award-winning film, based on the screenplay by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard:

Young Will Shakespeare has writer's block. The deadline for his new play is fast approaching, but he's in desperate need of inspiration. That is, until he finds his muse...the determined, brilliant and beautiful Viola. This young Noble Woman is Will’s greatest admirer and will stop at nothing (including breaking the law) to appear in his next play. Against a bustling background of mistaken identity, ruthless scheming and backstage theatrics, Will’s love for Viola quickly blossoms, inspiring him to write Romeo and Juliet, one of his greatest masterpieces.

Photographs from the performance can be viewed here. Congratulations to all members of the cast and crew on a terrific show!
