Tarah Donoghue Breed ’00 Named President of the Board of Trustees

St. Mark's is pleased to announce that Tarah Donoghue Breed ’00 will serve as the next president of the board of trustees at St. Mark’s School.

She brings a remarkable combination of professional expertise, thoughtful leadership, and dedication to young people, and I look forward to partnering with her as we continue to advance the School’s mission and priorities.”
Tarah has been a devoted member of the St. Mark’s community for decades. A graduate of the Class of 2000, she has remained actively engaged with the School as an alumna, volunteer, and trustee. Since joining the board of trustees in 2016, she has provided thoughtful leadership and insight across a range of initiatives, most recently serving as Chair of the Committee on Governance since 2022. She previously served as president of the Alumni Executive Committee, helping strengthen connections among generations of St. Markers and deepen alumni engagement with the School. Through her collaborative approach, strategic perspective, and steadfast commitment to St. Mark’s, she has earned the respect and admiration of her fellow trustees and community members alike.

I am excited to work alongside my fellow trustees, Head of School Ivory Hills, faculty, staff, students, and alumni as we continue to strengthen this extraordinary community and chart a course that is grounded in who we are and clear about where we are going.”
Tarah’s professional background spans education, communications, public affairs, and leadership development. She is the founder of Boston Interview Prep, where she helps students develop the confidence and skills needed to navigate competitive admission processes. Earlier in her career, she served as an admission officer at Fay School, where she interviewed and evaluated hundreds of applicants and worked closely with families throughout the enrollment process.
Prior to her work in education, Tarah held several communications roles at the national level, including serving as Deputy Press Secretary to First Lady Laura Bush and Assistant Press Secretary to Vice President Dick Cheney. In her role as a White House spokesperson, she advised senior leaders on communications strategy, responded to the press, prepared principals for high-profile media engagements, and coordinated national and international media coverage. She later served in various corporate and campaign roles in Washington, D.C., and Boston, working in strategic communications and reputation management consulting.
Tarah earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in Government and Art History from Georgetown University, where she was a Division I lacrosse player. Her connection to independent school education began long before St. Mark’s; she is also a graduate of Fay School and returned to St. Mark’s in 2009 to deliver the School’s 144th Commencement Address. Tarah is married to Allen Breed, ‘00, has three children, and lives in Dover, Massachusetts.
Tarah succeeds Michael Boulware Moore ’80, who has served with distinction as president of the Board of Trustees since 2021. During his tenure, the Board helped guide St. Mark's through a period of significant transition and momentum, including the final stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, the successful transition to a new Head of School, the conclusion of the Lives of Consequence campaign, and the development and ratification of the School's new mission statement and strategic plan. Michael's thoughtful guidance, vision, and unwavering dedication have helped position St. Mark's for continued success.
