Veteran St. Mark's coach Henry Large, this fall beginning his 52nd year and 107th season coaching St. Mark's athletes, was recently recognized with a feature piece in an early September edition of the MetroWest Daily News, written by longtime local sportswriter Lenny Megliola.
Mr. Large arrived at St. Mark's in the autumn of 1965, and he taught history and religion for 45 years, before officially retiring in 2010. He was, at the time, the senior member of the St. Mark's faculty. But that did not stop him from continuing on as assistant coach of both varsity football and varsity baseball. Over his 52-year-involvement with St. Mark's, Henry Large has served as both assistant coach and head coach of varsity football, assistant coach and head coach of varsity baseball, assistant coach of boys' varsity basketball, and head coach of boys' JV basketball. His 107 seasons of SM coaching are a St. Mark's record, and at the School's Sesquicentennial celebration in 2015 he was inducted into the SM Athletic Hall of Fame.
