Gospel-Themed Service at March Evening Chapel
Gospel-Themed Service at March Evening Chapel

On Tuesday evening, March 6, Belmont Chapel echoed with the sounds of gospel music. The Rev. Dr. Ray Hammond and musician's from the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Jamaica Plain, MA joined SM Chaplain Barbara Talcott, SM Music Director James Wallace, the School Choir and student readers in presenting a very special service.

The entire St. Mark's community sang "This Little Light of Mine" and "Precious Lord," Mr. Wallace and the choir performed both original and traditional gospel anthems (with some wonderful St. Mark's soloists). Dr. Hammond delivered the homily, advising his listeners to cherish calling over career.

The Bethel AME Church is the home church of Stacey Lee, Associate Dean of Students and Director of Residential Life at St. Mark's. Ms. Lee introduced Pastor Ray (both pictured at left) and his accompanying musicians.

It was a lively, inspiring serviceā€”a real change of pace for the School community. Before delivering the closing benediction, SM Assistant Chaplain Stephen Herbert declared that the evening "felt like church!"
