Jazz Artist Visits SM, Talks with Student Musicians

Recently, Ernesto Diaz, an assistant professor at Boston's Berklee College of Music, visited St.Mark's and spent time with student musicians.

Diaz, a percussionist who specializes in Caribbean and South American music, has performed with Gloria Estefan, the Boston Pops, and a host of legendary Cuban jazz artists. He teaches percussion at Berklee.

"He came and talked to the students about Cuban music and Latin percussion instruments," said Stephen Fell, director of the St. Mark's jazz ensembles. "He had the students play various percussion and helped us arrange a Tito Puente mambo, "Ran Kan Kan" that we will perform at our next concert."

Diaz will be joining the St. Mark's jazz band onstage, playing percussion, at the School's end-of-year concert.
