Catie Summers '21 Wins 2020 Shen Prize

St. Mark's History and Social Sciences Department Chair Adam Jewell has announced that Catie Summers '21 is the winner of the annual Shen Public Speaking Competition, held on Wednesday, May 27.

The competition asks students in Advanced U.S. History classes to research and prepare a speech (and paper) on a topic that shows either an expansion or contraction of American Democracy. The prize is given by Y.L Shen in honor of his daughters, Ing-ie (Ava) Shen of the Class of 1988 and Ing-Chuan (Judy) Shen of the Class of 1989.

Summers, a V Form boarder from Amherst, New Hampshire, presented on the topic of the "Women in World War: The Women's Army Corps (WAC)."
