Each season the Independent School League (ISL) recognizes specific teams and individual athletes for their sportsmanship. This winter, St. Mark's boys' varsity squash received the ISL award for team sportsmanship, while SM squash captain Eduardo Perez '19 was recognized by the ISL for his individual sportsmanship.
Perez, a VI Former from New Haven, Conn., has been the backbone of St. Mark's boys' squash program during his time at the School. This season, despite some late-season injury issues, he helped lead the Lions to 12 victories and second place in the Div. 4 high school squash Nationals. More importantly, he led by example, with both he and the team honored for their exemplary sportsmanship in 2018-2019.
As an institution, St. Mark's has always valued sportsmanship and the spirit of healthy, sportsmanlike competition ahead of wins and records. Congratulations to Eduardo and coach to Dan Shartin's SM boys' varsity squash team for achieving so much in both areas of performance.
