Dr. Heather Harwood - The Mrs. William Greenough Thayer Faculty Chair

The Mrs. William Greenough Thayer Faculty Chair was established in memory of Violet Otis Thayer, wife of St. Mark's sixth and longest-serving Headmaster. The School's second-oldest endowed faculty chair, it was created in 1962 by donations from more than 250 devoted alumni in memory of Violet Otis Thayer. In 2006, her grandson, Stephen B. Thayer '62, and the Virginia P. Thayer Trust, made transformative gifts which increased the principal value of this fund five-fold. Its first recipient was then-Senior Master Roland Darrow Sawyer (Math). Other holders of this chair include renowned faculty members J. Stanley Sheppard (Music), Richard A. Rader (Physics), and Stephen J. Lynch (French)
