Coach: Neil Cifuentes

As Head Coach for Boys’ Varsity Soccer at St. Mark’s, Spanish teacher Neil Cifuentes brings a wealth of experience to the game. Cifuentes, who is also Assistant Coach for Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse at St. Mark’s, has played and coached at every level from youth to university.

Previously, Cifuentes taught and coached at a middle school in Long Island and at the Taft School in Connecticut, where he helped to guide the Boys’ Varsity soccer team to the New England Semifinals.

As Assistant Coach to the Men’s and Women’s teams at St. Lawrence University, Cifuentes was part of a coaching staff that earned 10 straight NCAA tournament berths, as well as the 1999 National Championship in soccer. While at St. Lawrence, Cifuentes recruited and coached multiple All-League, All-American players who went on to play professionally both in the U.S. and internationally.

An experienced player as well as a coach, Cifuentes played soccer at St. Lawrence and Premier Club Soccer on Long Island, where he was ODP player U-15 to U-17. He has also trained youth soccer teams on Long Island and has coached at a number of soccer camps. He is an experienced Coerver Coaching Instructor. Cifuentes is currently a staff coach for the Greater Boston Bolts Soccer Club.

Cifuentes, who teaches Spanish and is part of the duty team for Marr Coolidge dormitory, holds a B.A. and an M.Ed from St. Lawrence. He is married to Associate Dean of Faculty and psychology teacher Lynette Sumpter. Cifuentes looks forward to one day coaching their son Jake, who is two and a half.
