Impact of Faculty Support
Faculty Endowment Funds Enhance Salaries and Professional Growth

The best teachers are lifelong learners who inspire students to lead with curiosity, think critically, and strive for excellence in all facets of their lives. St. Mark’s attracts and retains talented teachers by providing opportunities for personal and professional growth. With support from the endowed Faculty Excellence Fund, the School is now able to provide salary increases to faculty who have completed their second, seventh, 12th, and 20th year of service to the School.

During the Lives of Consequence campaign, more than $7 million in philanthropic contributions were made to the Faculty Excellence Fund, which generated the annual income necessary to begin implementing this vital enhanced compensation plan in 2019-2020. Additional support for salaries and professional development was established in 2021-2022 through the creation of two new endowed faculty chairs: the Antony and Elsa Hill Asian Studies Chair and the Director of the Burgess Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning Chair.

St. Mark’s faculty continue to develop innovative ways to educate students and encourage them to become lifelong learners and leaders. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, our dedicated teachers can bring new understandings learned through professional development opportunities back to their classrooms year after year.

“Strategic campaign resources have positively impacted faculty professional growth and development, allowing us to create a culture of continuous growth among faculty, where we are able to connect faculty to more conferences that they want to attend and professional development that they want to be a part of.”
